Character Development For Children at Imani Montessori School

One of the goals of the Imani Montessori Approach is to transmit the beliefs and values of a culture to our children. These values spring from the teachings of Maria Montessori and her vision of what it means to live in peace and global citizenship.

Character development continues to be one of the most important aspects of the Montessori curriculum, across all ages. The Montessori teacher and parent are important role models and guides toward the “education of the whole child” through thoughtful practice and shared experience.

One of the key concepts of character development is the importance of not correcting children in the middle of their work. Unless a child is damaging the material, or endangering himself or others, you let them continue their work.

Children learn to work their way through mistakes, which becomes a normal part of life and the learning process.

For children, courage is the ability to try new things even if they are afraid. As they mature, courage becomes the ability to do what is right and to do what is good, even when those choices are hard.
