Importance of Play During a Child’s Early Years

At Imani Montessori School, play is an essential part in the learning process and the holistic growth of the child.

Why is play important during Early Years?

Children are able to express their conscious and unconscious experiences through play. Play grows their sense of adventure and exploration hence nurturing an inquisitive and curious child.

During play, the child’s physical, social, cognitive and emotional parts are challenged.

Play also facilitates interaction of the child with his environment in a natural and self-directed way. He or she becomes more keen and notes the tiny details their environment has to offer.

Children learn best through their interactions with their environment while they play.

Both outdoor and indoor play develop the child’s critical thinking, communication and problem solving skills.

At Imani Montessori School, both free and directed play are part of the curriculum. The sand pit, field and indoor settings are well equipped with safe and age-appropriate materials to help the child learn while having fun during play.
