Learning begins at home. Parents are the first and most important teachers children have in their lives. Here are some ways which parents can support their kids learning at home.
Be positive about education to your children. To help children build confidence we have to show them that we value education and we use it in our daily lives. We have to say and and do things that help them develop positive attitudes toward school and learning.
Monitor your child’s tv, phone, video games, and Internet use. On average, children spend more time playing games on smartphones and consoles, watching TV, YouTube, and browsing the Internet than they do on school-related activities. It is important to monitor the content they consume and provide ideas that could help them use those devices and services more effectively.
Encourage reading in your child. One of the most crucial ways you can support your child’s learning at home is by encouraging and helping them to become readers. Not just of curricula content but also fun, educational fiction books. In fact if you do nothing else to support them at home, do this one thing and you will have set them up on a path to lifelong learning.
Talk. Children pick up language skills by listening to those in their immediate surrounding and imitating them. Talk and actively listen to your children to help them succeed both in school and in life.
Encourage independence. Help your children take responsibility and work independently to encourage responsibility and active learning. Active learning involves asking questions and answering them, solving problems and exploring interests. The Curriculum at Imani Montessori School is geared toward encouraging individual development, self-expression, and creativity in children within a peaceful, natural, and supportive atmosphere.
